The tailbone, or coccyx in medical terms, is the bottom of the spine, making possible to support your pelvic area. Sometimes, we can injury this area pretty badly, causing inflammation and pain. The injury may come after a simple fall down to the ground, or on ice, as it happened to me. The pain can persist from days to weeks!
You should know that many pelvic muscles insert into the tailbone and it’s very possible to affect those muscles, too, making even a simple thing as walking, impossible.
But performing some stretches or using some natural methods and remedies will help you to get rid of tailbone pain.
Heat/cold pack on the back
This is the most common remedy you can use for tailbone pain, because it reduces inflammation and promotes healing. Use a hot water bottle and ice pack and keep each one for 20 minutes to the affected area.
You can easily massage the muscles that support the tailbone, located near the pelvic area, by insisting on the painful points. You can use lavender oil and take a gentle massage for 15-20 minutes. This way you will alleviate the pain.
It is said that tailbone pain is associated with lack of vitamins D,B6, and B12, and consuming it will reduce the changes to develop such pain. Of course, this remedy is used as prevention for tailbone pain, in case you’ve hurt yourself, vitamins won’t help you very much.
And this is one of the best remedies for tailbone pain, because castor oil has anti-inflammatory role and will help you to a quick recovery. All you have to do is heat 1 teaspoon of castor oil and apply it to the affected area, and then cover it with a bandage.
Epsom salt bath
Epsom salt baths are very relaxing, and will help you to reduce stress on the back of your muscles and alleviate pain. Just add 2 cups of Epsom salt in the bathtub filled with warm water, and take a 20-minute relaxing bath.
