We are in the middle of cold season and is inevitable to catch a cold. Me and my family already had the flu – and flu is horrible with all its symptoms, especially the annoying cough that sticks to you many weeks after the flu is gone. Even if we drink gallons of ginger and honey tea during the cold months, we still caught this nasty flu virus. As years pass by, it seems that the flu virus is getting stronger.
Since coughing like a donkey all day and night isn’t a solution and one of my colleagues just couldn’t stand me anymore, she prepared a natural cough syrup. More precisely, a homemade booze syrup, because the main ingredient of this cough syrup is Bourbon. In the end, my cough was gone and I hope it stays there, because I can’t feel my lungs.
The first step in getting rid of that bad cough was to gargle with salty water…
- add 1 teaspoon of salt in 200 ml of warm water, stir until the salt dissolves, and gargle 3 times a day
…then take the next Homemade Bourbon Cough Syrup as it follows:
Remember: adults only! This syrup is not recommended for kids!
- 2 ounces of bourbon whisky
- the juice of half a lemon
- 2-4 ounces of water
- 1 tablespoon of honey
Mix the bourbon, lemon juice, and water (if using) in a tumbler or mug and heat in the microwave for about 45 seconds. (You can also do this on the stovetop in a little saucepan.) Take out and add the honey. Whisk to combine, then microwave for another 45 seconds.
If you’re sick, it’s best not to drink this too hot; a good warm temperature is better. Take it to bed and nurse it slowly with a book in the other hand. Sleep well!
